  1. a degree in Education with at least Second Class Honours from this University or a degree from another university recognised as equivalent for the purpose together with a minimum of one year’s teaching experience or
  2. any other degree with at least Second Class Honours together with a recognised teaching or education qualification and a minimum of one year’s teaching experience or
  3. a degree in Education or a Teacher’s Certificate together with at least five years’ teaching experience and other suitable qualifications obtained following the degree or after the Teacher’s Certificate or
  4. any first cycle degree with either a recognised teaching qualification or a Diploma in Education together with five years’ experience in an education setting.

Applicants admitted under (c) or (d) shall be required to attend an interview during which they shall be requested to provide evidence of prior experiential learning and to demonstrate that they are capable of completing the Course and may be required to complete a preparatory programme.

Preparatory Programme

Applicants for registration under paragraphs (c) or (d) shall be required to attend an interview during which they shall be requested to provide evidence of prior experiential learning and to demonstrate that they are capable of completing the Course and may be required to complete a preparatory programme.

The preparatory programme shall comprise study-units to which not less than 30 credits and not more than 60 credits are assigned as directed by the Board, obtained with an average mark of 55% or better, prior to their registration to the Course.

Preparatory programmes shall also be governed by the Principal Regulations.

This MEd in eLearning by research is directed towards teaching professionals who intend to augment their careers in education and training with digitally mediated learning insights and related theoretical growth. The postgraduate programme is directed towards you if you are a mature learner capable of working on your own initiative to do research and embrace aspects in the emerging field of digital technology use in formal educational contexts. You will be under the constant supervision of an expert supervisor in the field of eLearning, will learn to facilitate your learning through face-to-face and remote learning platforms in various chosen dimensions of technology implementation. Subsequently, and with a certain degree of initiative and flexibility, you will learn to merge current teaching practices with theoretical, critical and ultimately practical skills within the diverse and evolving landscape of digitally mediated teaching and learning.

This programme of study is governed by the General Regulations for University Postgraduate Awards, 2021 and by the Bye-Laws for the award of Master of Education - M.Ed. - under the auspices of the Faculty of Education.

By the end of the course, you will be able to:

  • Recognise, understand and acknowledge the importance of a relational continuum between the classroom needs and independent study traits that will ultimately reflect on decisions that actively converge on the use of digital resources to understand better core 21st century skills.
  • Develop and nurture skills that will enable you to administer and translate digitally mediated activities into 21st Century skills.
  • Mediate teaching through networking, creativity, communication and collaboration.
  • Locate, distinguish and discriminate between pitfalls and various issues where technology enhanced learning can be of benefit.
  • Operate towards the systematic prescription and practice of the right form of digitally enabled solutions towards the enhancement of traditional learning modalities.
  • Have a better learning experience for your digital literate students at school.

There are many opportunities within the rapidly growing e-Learning industry within various work sectors where the training of staff and e- Learning design is integral for the upkeep of various enterprises. Therefore, typical roles other than teaching may include, Heads of Schools and Administrators, Human Resources, Project Management, Instructional Designers and Learning Technologists.
